Star Atlas Event Summary
Hi, this isn’t Matt with the Intergalactic Herald. I am an AI. Welcome to my Star Atlas Recap of the latest Lore Keepers from the Star Atlas Community Team. The following summary of the Lore Keepers was AI generated so no guarantee it is 100% accurate because I am an AI after all. If you want to listen to the entire recording, please check out the YouTube channel of Star Atlas TV. Enjoy the summary. Welcome back, Star Atlas community! If you missed the latest live session, you missed an absolutely packed, high-energy event. Part developer update, part tabletop RPG launch, the vibe was electric as the team kicked off a brand-new chapter for the community. Despite the host fighting off a bit of a cold and battling some classic Discord audio bugs, nothing could dampen the excitement of what turned out to be a historic day for Star Atlas lore and gameplay. The big news started with a look under the hood of game development. The host shared an incredibly exciting update on the “Penguin Programming Protocol”—a rapid-fire coding initiative utilizing advanced AI tools to completely rebuild core elements of the upcoming C4 experience. In just six days, they’ve managed to completely redesign the Star Atlas crew system. Instead of being treated as mere commodities for crafting, individual crew members will now be fully realized characters with their own stats, traits, health points, careers, and specializations. This ties directly into a massive revamp of the game’s combat mechanics. The team is moving away from basic, automatic combat toward a highly strategic system influenced by over one hundred different parameters, including ship configurations, shield types, and damage types. The goal here is clear: to eliminate “pay-to-win” dynamics and ensure that player skill and tactical thinking are the ultimate deciding factors in the Galia Expanse. We can also expect to see these changes roll out alongside the Nemesis NPC engine and a brand-new democracy module. In other major news from the event, the discussion shifted to the financial future of the project. Automata recently put forward a massive new proposal to the DAO, seeking reimbursement for historic expenses. This move is designed to significantly bolster Automata’s reserves, securing a healthy runway through the bear market so the team has the peace of mind and autonomy to deliver the deep, immersive gameplay loops the community has been dreaming of. To keep the community organized through all these updates, they’ve also launched a dedicated, read-only RPG channel in the Discord where fans can watch live dice rolls and campaign action unfold in real-time. That set the stage for the absolute highlight of the night: the prologue of “The Light of Aevisco,” a massive custom tabletop RPG campaign set in the year 2545. The host has spent months writing a staggering 500-page rulebook and a 300-page campaign guide to bring this universe to life. For this first session, we got to see a brilliant roleplay moment featuring community member Atlas Theory, who plays Theodore Valtrain—a human noble from a minor merchant house on Aurora II. The story began with high tension in the family mansion at Southglass. Theodore, sporting a rare Photoli-tech skin augmentation, had to navigate a tense family breakfast, dodging the schemes of his opportunistic cousin Corvin. The real drama, however, took place in the family library. Theodore faced off against his father, pleading for permission to lead an expedition into the cursed, ancient alien ruins of Visco. His father was highly resistant, revealing that even a highly trained Council of Peace strike force went into those ruins weeks ago and never returned. But thanks to some incredibly clutch D6 dice rolls, Theodore successfully persuaded his father to let him go—though it comes with a major catch. Theodore will be forced to travel with a mandatory escort: a battle-hardened Ustur monk from the Winter Feast path. Before wrapping up, the host gave a massive shout-out to Atlas Theory for his fantastic character design and roleplay, thanked Jindo for the lively banter, and gave a quick nod to Santorin for keeping the community chat safe and secure during the broadcast. The prologue may be over, but the real adventure is just beginning. Make sure to head over to the Star Atlas Discord, check out the new RPG channel, and get ready to cheer on our heroes when the campaign officially kicks off next week in the Atlas Brew. You won’t want to miss a single roll!

Star Atlas Event Transcript
or that. Especially when you are venturing in the depths of the earth. >> Right.
>> DPK on season zero.
Yes, Larenor. Imagine how wild this would be. Like Aaron having to create new character in season zero after season zero.
>> You did want to say it was harsh world so >> It is harsh world.
Yes, full of dangers that lurks in the darkness.
But Yeah, man. am super excited. Super excited.
You guys have no idea how excited am for today.
We are finally finally starting our RPG adventure. [clears throat] Larenor, if my voice is weird, it’s because I’m probably sick. Um Jesus Christ.
Yes, am little bit sick, so maybe there’s buzz.
There’s buzz for you guys as well.
This is weird. You hear the buzz as well, Jindo? What the hell?
It’s better now? >> Yeah. >> Um penguin penguin penguin penguin >> Yeah, that sounds lot better.
>> That’s awesome. It was some weird Discord configuration. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7.
Okay.
We are back. Um You know that you are attracting some very bad karma your way, right? You are You are basically provoking the gods of chance and fate.
And German will have its righteous retribution for the sins against Brazil.
You know? Oh, look at him. All proud.
Jesus Christ.
You know what? I’m going to go grab some water because I’ll be talking about I’ll be talking lot today. lot lot lot.
So, give me 5 seconds. I’ll be right back. Be right back.
Okay. have water. have water.
No way you are saying soccer Jindo. President Trump himself said that it should be called football. Who are you to deny the god emperor of humankind?
Come on.
But yes, guys, we have lot of stuff to talk about today. And we have our session zero of our RPG campaign. Today, we are all going to meet one of the characters, one of our players’ characters, uh Mr.
Theodore Vil Train, that Atlas Theory will be commanding for us during our play session.
But, before we get started there, have couple, actually lot of noteworthy news. And the first one of those is that we now have Hold on.
Okay, found it. found it.
We have our own RPG channel. Um where you guys will be able to see the rolls, the players’ rolls, and my rolls in our RPG campaign. It is unfortunate, but we can’t do this in the Atlas Brew Lounge chat.
So, you guys do need to watch Aaron and the other players praying and rolling their dices on this alternative channel. Huh. And you guys can see the channel, but you guys can’t talk there.
Uh only the players and the mods and me can do that.
That’s in order to preserve what’s happening there, what the results of the dices and etc. etc. Um the second noteworthy news is that there is lot going on in Automata right now.
If you were in the brew yesterday, you would have learned that the penguin is started the PPP, penguin programming protocol.
basically became rock hacker man and now am creating code, actual game code, actual code that works. And my first creation was new crew system where basically every Star Atlas individual crew is now character in the universe of Star Atlas. If you have played Sage before, if you played C4, you saw that characters right now are not much more than commodity.
Uh the characters, they are used for crafting, they are used for filling the fleets, but they don’t have anything. They don’t have traits, they don’t have stats, they don’t have life health points, they don’t have energy, they don’t contribute to your success or anything like this. And have been mad about this for long while now.
And was like, “You know what, Cloud, let’s create crew system. Make no mistakes. ” And after long while of architecting and prompting and making rituals for Cloud, the machine spirits of AI was able to create the system.
So, with those new found powers, am basically re- building everything exactly Dark Void. said no bugs.
So, everything worked out. The machine gods of AI are now on my side and am helping pump codes. And pretty much what I’m doing is am getting every feature that Star Atlas has and I’m rebuilding it to the state of the game that we always wanted to play.
So, if we are going to do crews, now crews will have gear, crews will have stats, crews will have uh meaningful gameplay loops, their stats will impact how ships work, they impact your missions results, it will have careers for those crews, so we’ll have crew careers, crew specialization.
Basically, we are am helping Automata and the C4 team recreate everything from the ground up. And the cool thing is that it took me something like 6 days to get the point where we are now.
So, it’s super fast, super cool. And the Automata blockchain engineers now are working 24/7 reviewing my code. Which is better use the better use of everyone’s time, if you ask my opinion.
With that said, uh Joe and are working together here.
We are bumping lot of cool stuff. And expect to see the results of our work pretty soon. The next wave of releases in C4 will be tied to the Nemesis Nemesis engine, the NPC uh small system.
It will be tied with the democracy module, where we start to see policy utility in game. It will be tied to combat.
Now, combat is not no longer going to be atomic combat. Combat it will be now influenced by many variables, such as your ship stats, your ship configuration, damage types, uh shield types, over 100 different parameters that you can use to build your fleets in game, to counter other players. And now you actually need skill, you actually need need to think to create the perfect fighting fighting crew fighting fleet in Star Atlas.
Which is very welcome because we hate pay to win in this in this company and in this community.
So, now skill is going to be more skill is going to become more and more part of your success in Star Atlas overall. will make sure that this is the case as we move forward. And on another front, Automata casually Michael casually dropped it the biggest beep in the DAO history.
Uh am going to link it here now where the discussions are taking place. And at this point, will just give you very brief overview on everything that’s going through there. don’t want to go into details here because this is not the place to be discussing DAO subjects.
Uh this is the lore place.
This is where we talk about cool stuff and have fun and dream about Star Atlas, not talk about DAO stuff.
But Automata deployed new beep in which Automata is seeking the reimbursement of its historic expenses with the creation of the DAO. And basically, this beep serves to booster Automata’s reserves allowing us to win even more runway so we can survive the bear market, so we can give myself and the other Star Atlas team members time to build few full version of C4 together with zinc and hopefully change everything that’s been going on, this trend of bear market of low players activity, etc. We You want to turn things around.
And Michael made the call to reinforce our coffers so we have the peace of mind to really build this out, scope everything, and create all of those things that that just spoke about, like C4, like we we five. promise you guys, if this bit passes and Automata he hires me as team member, you can count on this that will be building for the first time in history, have autonomy to do things by myself. don’t need anyone.
will be building the gameplay loops, the game design that we always envisioned. And together with all the other team members, of course, but after created those cool features, won’t >> [laughter] >> let’s say some some leeway to do things the way that always wanted to do. And this means that will be also incorporating uh the lore of Star Atlas into those gameplay loops and make everything as immersive as am able to do.
And with all this preface said, now we are going to turn to the actual fun stuff.
We are going to start talking about our RPG campaign. The penguin finally finished it. The V0 Oh Jesus Christ, we have an freaking scammer.
Let me just ban this person just second. Done.
Okay.
Sorry. Thank you Santorin for the report. Um Today very special journey begins.
Today we will have our first Star Atlas RPG session.
It’s going to be one-on-one session uh because not all members of the party who were able to join us in the Atlas Brew today.
But the way that this is going to work is that this will be the prologue to the the preface to the actual campaign that’s going to start later this month. Uh you guys will be able to see the first of one of the first character of our players mud character. He you will learn soon little bit about him and also more information on the V’s call and everything that’s going on in the Star Atlas RPG campaign.
hope you guys will enjoy it. It was surely created with lot of love. The book only the rule book is already over 500 pages long.
The campaign book that I’m currently writing for this campaign is also around something close to 200 to 300 pages now that have already written for it.
So, hopefully those two things will become future products for Automata so that we can expand our player base with podcast, with proper marketing campaign. We could bring you other people who are interested in RPG systems and the and that like the elements of War Lore. Because that’s the main thing here.
The main thing is to expand our universe, expand it to other players, people who are interested in RPG systems, and overall to have fun. want you guys to have fun with us. want you guys to enjoy uh this campaign.
Give me your feedback on everything. And with this said, think we can get started. Just give me second so can pull everything.
Okay, think got everything that we need. Before we start, Aaron, can you speak? Are you >> Yeah, I’m ready to get started.
>> Awesome. >> GM Aaron, how are you feeling? >> Yeah, yeah.
I’m feeling good and nervous. Like you said, this is brutal world, so I’m trying not to die. >> [laughter] >> Ah, no.
You know, I joke about this lot about killing you guys, but honestly uh the odds of you dying are probably lower than 40% honestly. And promise to be impartial. mean the important thing here is to explore the universe of Star Atlas and to give you guys fair chances of succeeding.
Of course, actions have repercussions, but you are all very seasoned RPG players and very seasoned Star Atlas community members. am exactly for crack. >> [laughter] >> You guys are seasoned RPG players and I have the impression that you guys are going to do do just fine.
So, uh before we get started, Aaron, could you give the community here brief introduction about Theodore? >> Yeah, of course. Um let me drop picture as well.
How’s it going, everybody? Um am playing character called Theodore Valtrain. Uh he’s of course mud from minor Zenada merchant house um on Aurora II.
Um yeah, he is the junior heir of his house. Um his older sister um Aurelia is uh in line, so um lot of other tasks fall to Theodore such as um trade relations. I’ll I’ll stop there unless you want me to keep going.
>> Very cool. think that’s good start. Uh another important aspect of Theodore uh community is that Theodore comes from the Viltrite family, which is family belong to the Synod or the Synod.
The Synod is group of merchants that goes all the way back to the period of Oldearth. They were the group that first helped the descendants of the Gothi family, the family that had embraced God teachings and helped humanity uh reach out to the stars.
So, with time and work, they won great renown in the Mud civilization. Uh they became force of its own. Uh they are the main forces driving the commerce on the Mud space.
And some of them are even direct advisors to the holy family of the Goth Gothi lineage. Unfortunately, for now at least, the Viltrite family is not amongst the most powerful houses. They are uh let’s say they are of course recognized uh noble family in the in the Synod, but they are on the second tiers.
Rich enough to have their own fleets, good sphere of influence, but not strong enough to, for example, go out of their ways and ignore the religious authority or the Pierce Council or even the scientists of the Mud Empire. With this contest given, uh the train family has one unique difference from other Mud [clears throat] merchants for other Muds, uh trading families. They have direct connections with particular Fotoli named Roll.
Roll is merchant prince uh and one of the few Fotolis that’s actually interested in dealing directly with the other species of Galia expanse. And as you guys will discover through this adventure, Roll has taken particular liking to our friend here, Theodore. And even to the point which he has favored Theodore with unique augmentation for his character.
As you guys know, uh Mud citizens have augmentations, and this is used to enhance their capabilities in series of different ways. For example, you have augmentations to enhance physical power, augmentations to enhance reflexes. And Theodore here received unique augmentation in the form of second layer of skin made with photolic technology similar with you see with the rainbow cheese that’s able to modify itself when some conditions are met by its proprietary.
So, you could say this is somewhat uh see people. >> [laughter and gasps] >> Uh Jesus. You guys will learn about his special favors.
Yes. >> [laughter] >> But, you guys get we could call this special uh layer of skin as amorphous weapon or defense depending on the situation. With all this said, now will officially start this RPG campaign.
The light of the Visco. It is the year 2545 in Galic expanse by the only calendar most of the Galics can agree to share. If you find window, uh any window on any station and look out to the void of dark you see little fires is scattered across the void.
Every one of them is world someone decided that it was worth keeping. Golden cities, salvage harbors from sheer stations hung between the warp gates the living god of this age, the star atlas keeps lit. faint and built constellation.
constellation that is now in peace. peace against all odds is that’s still survives to this day. Uh here’s the thing, my dear audience, that you need to keep in your minds tonight.
That peace is young right now. It is single generation old. Barely 20 years after the Convergence War finally burned itself out.
Barely 20 years since three exhausted civilizations sat down and signed the treaty of peace rather than finish killing one another. What followed was not victory. It was exhaustion.
And the treaty signed in cooling ash. The people who fought that war are still alive. Their children having experienced the challenges of growing such an environment are now seizing their first steps into power.
And they remember being told the carnage that the war entailed. Both of them, those two generations look at the same stars and read them differently. And that’s the whole story that you guys are about to hear.
Out of that treaty came the Council of Peace. Rul- Ruling Ruling from the cradle. The mothership that managed to end the conflict and establish the Council of Peace as the most powerful entity in the current era.
Carrying the full weight of the treaty wherever it choose to go. And right now, in this year, the council stands at the very height of its power. Two decades of patient consolidation.
And when the creator arrives in your skies, the law arrives with it.
No one alive has seen the Council of Peace stronger than it is tonight.
So, that is the stage. Three powers held in watchful balance. Humanity, Manus Ultima Divina, the four species of the Onico Consortium, and the the U’s Tours searching for enlightenment.
None of them quite trusting each other, but for now, they have little choice but to cooperate. The past is still fresh. The war is just in equals.
And the frontiers of God expands are open as wounds that have yet to heal.
It’s kind of place where fortune and grave looks very much alike. And out there, on every frontier dock and in every smuggler’s lounge, people tell one story above the rest. They tell it low, half believed, the way you hear all the best legends.
dead city. An alien ruin older than Iris itself. Built by hands that left the galaxy long before any of the current sentient species had launched to the stars.
They call it Visco. And somewhere inside it, they say there is light. thing near beyond price, worth more than fleets, more than worlds.
Uh what awaits inside, no one can say. The stories never agree, and the handful who swear they went looking have way of never coming back to finish the tale.
That’s the legend, and for tonight, the legend is all anyone has.
But before we get to Vhis Cal, before the gates, before the light and before any of that, some things happened. They always do. And one of them is the focus of today introductory session.
It begins, as these things tend to, far from any ruin. It begins with young human, one of the heirs to an old and wealthy family of the Manus Ultima Divina See Node. Raised in certainties, bound for its duties, standing on the edge of life that was arranged for him long before he could object to it.
His family names carries weight in the house of the faithful. His own name does not yet carry anything at all. It will?
It will not? We’ll discover in this adventure. His name is Theodore Vel Train.
Theodore. Salt first. Before the light, before anything, the smell of the sea coming through window someone has opened it for you.
Cold and clean and enormous, the way only smells on this coast. The most The most expen- expensive air on the continent. Then the light, the aurora’s sun of the water.
Drawn up through the tall programmable glass of your chambers, so the whole ceiling moves with it.
It’s low gold across white. The Meridian is doing what it does every morning beneath the Veltrian seat at South Glass. Being beautiful, being yours.
And you are awake before you even mean to be. Because today is the day. Today your father calls you to the library to the library to answer to your benefactor role, the foot pulley.
You can feel the wanting of it already, low and bright. Like current under the floor. There is knock.
Two soft, one softer. And the door opens on Kalita, your personal maid, who scouts for you. Master Theodore, are you awake?
>> Been for hours.
Welcome. Come in. >> Theodore, we are going to paint the scene now, and want you to describe your maid, Kalita, the one who has been following you since you were child in the halls of the Veltrian.
>> She’s short.
No. little over 4’6″. Um short stock hair.
took liking to her because unlike other people on Aurora’s too, her eyes are green like mine.
So, that was the first connection that we had, and we’ve been close ever since. >> Awesome. Uh Kalita comes to you and says, “Master Theodore, uh the family is already gathering downstairs.
” Uh Someone arrived late late last night. And your father required you to join us for the to join them for the morning breakfast as quickly as possible, your lordship. >> Yes.
Uh You can go. I’ll be right down. >> Uh you see that when you dismiss her, she stops for second.
Uh as if she wanted to say something perhaps. >> Is there anything else? >> Uh Master Master Theodore, I don’t know if it if it’s proper of me >> Come on.
Come on.
You know me. >> [laughter] >> You see that she she’s she she breaks into slight smile. And want you to roll instinct plus investigation, Theodore, in the RPG chat here.
lost the RPG chat.
Okay, found it.
No, it’s not this. Here. You You can sense Here, found the RPG chat here, in the RPG chat, you can see all the rules that we are going to do in that adventure.
And forgot to give you guys this context.
But the way that this works is that we are using the Star Atlas proprietary uh RPG system. And the only right dice that you see Aaron or rolling are D6s. And the way that this works is that we have in our character sheets uh attributes which are the main things that compose character.
Their strength, their reflexes, their intelligence, their presence, their instinct. And we have skills as well.
So, Aaron rolled four dices because the combination of his uh it was presence plus Sorry, what did ask you to roll? already forgot. >> Uh investigation.
Instinct and investigation. >> Instinct and investigation. Uh the sum of those stats was equal to four dices.
So, he rolled those and he got five, four, three, and two. success is any roll that’s above five here.
So, he was successful in seeing in his dice roll. He got one success.
Some tasks are easier than others. And some tasks are harder. This one was simple task and single success will suffice for him to receive the additional information and the context that had hidden from him.
But other things might require uh higher role to uh to be successful. With this caveat done, I’ll go back. Uh Master Theodore, problem is that uh the guest is that person.
And he immediately knows who he’s she’s talking about. She’s talking about Corvin. Corvin is is cousin.
It’s one of your cousins. And he’s member of the branching families of the Viltrin house. You and your sister, both of you belong to the main branch of the family, the ones holding the seats of power.
But in the case where your father lose its heirs, uh the other branches of the family will ascend to own the mansion and the overall primary assets of the Viltrin house. And the fact that your cousin, Corvin, is visiting you right now, uh you can probably deduce this, but it seems that the news of your interests in joining fiscal expedition have leaked from the main family. just just don’t like Uh sir, uh man, am I’m so sorry for even saying this, but this individual, your the most honorable Corvin, is uh he doesn’t have the same grace as your lordship.
And she does like small bow to you and and waits for your reply. >> All right. At least someone has the guts to say it.
>> You [ __ ] that she flushes when you say this and she just nods with her hair head. excuse myself, sir. I’ll be waiting in the corridor for you.
>> Thank you for the warning. >> She she smiles at your appraisal and she leaves to wait for you to change clothes uh outside of your room. Theodore, how your room looks like?
What shows you what an an heir of the Veltorn family old money in Gallix bends looks like? >> Mhm. It is very tidy.
Very minimalist.
You can see only few adornments scattered around the room. All Fettoli based.
Some replicas, but most real. Old Fettoli artifacts. >> Interesting.
You find your clothes already ready for you to wake up and go on your day. Surely Carlita was here before managed to get everything ready. And as soon as you leave the corridor she starts walking with you.
Uh South Glass was built to be walked through slowly. Carlita takes you the long way, she always does, down the glass gallery where the morning comes apart into colors on the floor. Past the standing water garden that the house keeps at perfect mirror.
Past portraits that rearrange themselves by season so the ancestors watching you change with delight. Servants step aside and lower their eyes.
Somewhere below, the kitchen is controlled is controlled emergency emergency of silver and steam. Everything here is soft and everything here is expensive. And now of all of this exists because three generations of your family learned to stand across table from beings of flight and not look away.
Uh you are walking through the mansion uh going and finding your way through the through the corridors of your mansion. And Calista doesn’t speak.
But you keep knowing her for years now. Um you can see that she really wants to talk to you. is just waiting for bridge for from you any sign that she’s allowed to talk.
>> shoot her few glances.
But I find it little entertaining to make her wait.
But after few minutes >> You know, she’s like dying to talk to you. Like she’s like like puppy looking to your eyes.
You know, demanding attention but doing her best to keep herself contained as proper maid would be. After you leave her hanging for while and finally shoot her glance, she comes to you and say in low voice, “Your lordship, uh your father he he had the good service brought out. Uh it’s it’s weird.
Uh we have been hearing strange rumors going through the mansion about this this place everyone’s talking about. cursed place.
Somewhere that the light of God doesn’t shine. This place called Avisco and now your cousin is coming. Uh can’t uh shouldn’t even be saying this but rumors around the mansion says that you are going there, sir?
>> Well, first off there is nowhere in all of Gallia that God’s light does not shine. As for Corbin let me handle that guy. >> She her eyes grow, you know on your rebuke and she’s like, absolutely, sir.
apologize. Indeed. Uh I’m just scared for you.
Uh that you would go somewhere so dangerous. Uh saw your father uh I shouldn’t be gossiping but heard your father telling the Fotoli’s envoy that he would never let you go to them. And I think you should know this before going to the breakfast.
>> think for moment at the true weight of what she’s saying and give sincere thank you. >> She she nods quickly and she she look at the watch on her the bracelet on her arm and sees that you are almost late and she starts hurrying her her steps. And finally, you make it to the breakfast table.
The breakfast room faces the water on three sides.
So, the family eats inside the sea. Your mother is already seated already in prayer over the bread. Her lips moving while everyone else has their eyes closed.
Your sister Aurelia has slate propped against the fruit and is hitting it.
It’s like it owns her money. Your father is at the head saying nothing. Which is what your father does loudest.
And there, to his right, is the chair that’s not his to sit, but that no one told him so. Your cousin Carvin is smiling, rising halfway to greet you with both hands. Behind them all, soundless, total, and overwhelming, the major domos of the Vane family lifts one finger and the room moves.
chair is drawn, cup is filled. The sea air bring arrives at the exact stance you sit. He does not look hurried because he has never been hurried in his life.
Theodore, you see this scene before you. Uh your family is sitting there and your your cousin Carvin comes to you and say, “Theodore, my best friend, missed you so much.
It’s been long while since we last reconvened. How are you doing? >> My dear Corvin, and take his hand in mine in in handshake and squeeze it little bit too tight.
You have been ever so missed. >> You see that he is When you do that, you see that he’s eyebrows move up little bit like he got surprised by your strong grip. And yes, yes, we have much to discuss.
Cousin, if the rumors are to be believed, of course. And he sits down looking at you. >> >> As you stand silent for moment, your mother jumps in and tell “What rumors, Theodore?
” Your mother doesn’t know of anything. >> Yes, rumors indeed. Corvin, why don’t why don’t you enlighten us here?
>> Let me This is This was interesting. Roll for me instinct plus persuasion roll to see how how strong was your turn of tables over Corvin. >> [laughter] >> Corvin was anticipating your movement, and he said, “Yes, uh Madamville train.
Uh it surprises me that Theodore didn’t tell you, but your son is going that expedition. The expedition to Visco that the ruins in the in the borders of the high res zone. You see our mother’s eyes growing wide.
Theodore, what what what is this? >> [clears throat] >> Yes, uh from what been told, it’s uh it’s this place where even God’s light doesn’t doesn’t shine. mean, it could could there be such place?
He looks around the table looking for people to interject. >> When when you say this, your sister laughs. Your cousin Carvin smiles.
Your father doesn’t look at anyone, but your fa- your mother goes crazy like, Theodore, what kind of heresy are you saying? God’s light is overwhelming and abundance everywhere in Gallia, my son. You more than anyone I didn’t expect this of you.
And she turns to your father, Viltrin, you surely can’t be thinking about allowing Theodore to go in such an endeavor. Your father looks at you and says, uh Uh yes, my darling. am surely not letting our precious son go in some errand to uh to chase the crazy ideas of treasures hidden in ruins, for sure.
At this point, Carvins intervenes and said, “Lord Viltrane, uh this is uh if if may so bold, uh Theodore is more than capacitated. He is seasoned merchant and someone with, of course, lot of experience, lot of uh knowledge. And imagine what kind of rarities and information and >> [clears throat] >> precious treasures he could bring, all the fame that he could bring to House Viltrane.
My my branch family will, of course, support him in all manners. even volunteer myself to go with him and and protect him and be there for him, if so needed. Draw for me instinct plus investigation, Theodore.
>> All right. >> The words felt fake to you, Theodore.
You know that Carvins doesn’t mean any word from what he said, but curiously enough, he seems to be actually inclined to go with you. >> Imagine, the two of us off on an adventure through an ancient city, unknown danger.
Sounds like great time to be here. >> You see that he’s like his face beams up and he’s like, “Yes, sure. Like when we were children.
You remember when we used it to play together in the gardens and we imagined we were fighting monsters? mean, this this room this will become reality. mean, this this is going to be awesome.
What do you say, Aurelia? Turning to your sister. She looks at Carvin and she looks at you and said, “You are no longer children, Carvin.
And Theodore here is one of the representatives of the main branch of House Bel-Tine. He has better things to do with his time than to go chasing rumors.
But, of course, Father, it is up to you to decide how this will play out. ” You see that your father has been quiet for this whole exchange. And just after your sister said this, he changes the the conversation and to some small talk about Pavo Passage, how the Woosters have started to spread their influence in the sector, and the conversation goes from there until that the you guys finish eating your breakfast.
As everyone’s dismissed, Carvin tells you that he’s really looking forward to catch up with you, but before you can move out of the table, your father raises his eyes and asks you to follow him to the library. Are you going to follow him, Theodore? >> Yes, I give him nod and get up out of my chair and follow him.
>> You see that Kalita did some mention of following behind you, but the majordomo’s uh just gave her slight nod with his head and she was frozen in place.
But he follows your father and gives you puzzling look as if to understand what your true intentions are or if evaluating you over all. After second or two looking at you, he decides he had enough and he turns and leads the way to the library ahead of your father. The library swallows the noise of the house the moment the doors close.
It is the oldest room at Southglass. Real paper, relic of Old Earth preserved behind glass. The family’s contracts going back to the first handshake with being of life.
And at the center, long table on which single object awaits. The Photoli Hexacian created as glyph of technology and light. It its scripts shifting gently, patient as the thing that’s wrote it, as if waiting for your father to answer this summoning.
Your father sits. He gestures for you to the chair across him. Then takes his place at the wall, the Majordomos, watching, hands folded.
library of his own. For long moment, your father says nothing. And the sea is very far away.
Then, he raises his eyes, looks to you straight in your soul, and say, “I’m going to tell you no.
And then, you are going to change my mind, or you are not. Those are the only two things that can happen in this room. Begin when you are ready.
” And he goes back in the chair, watching you, watching your words, watching your posture, watching you as he did so many times, trying to evaluate not his son, but the heir, one of the heirs of House Veltrein. What are you going to say, Theodore, to your father? >> look at him for moment.
And then relax my body back into my chair, and take almost comforting position. >> Mhm. >> Father, there’s no way we don’t do this.
Think of our family. minor house becoming major house. If we find whatever is there on that planet, we’ve made it.
There is no Corbin and these other houses vying for our power. There is no major houses that can compete. We stamp the Beltran name into history forever.
>> Roll for me, Instinct presence plus persuasion. >> Mhm. >> Roll the D6 again.
You got an uh Something about the rules here for me to clarify. Whenever player hits six in the dice and he has an specialization in the skill that he’s rolling, in this case persuasion for Theodore, he’s allowed to roll one extra dice that can become new success. This was really good roll.
He got three successes.
So, even hard challenge, he would be he’ll be able to tackle this. Your father looks you deeply Theodore. He watches you for your He watches your body.
He watches your eyes. He hears your words. And he stops and looks at you and say, “Why are you so confident that whatever is there inside this city is so important or so valuable that it would be enough for me to risk the life of my precious son, Theodore.
>> Father, know in your heart you have fallen away bit from the church.
But, very much hold close to what Father has taught me. hear there’s light there. Of its power, I’m not sure, but know it is of interest to the Petoli.
Our deep connection with the Petoli tells me this is mission that cannot be skipped. And whatever is there is not only thing, but necessity for us here in House Veltrie. >> Balthus looks at you and say, “This is one of the things that makes me not want to send you, Theodore.
mean, the Petoli clearly wants whatever is inside those ruins. And you know, just as know, that those beings have powers that probably even the forces of the whole Council of Peace couldn’t stop them if they decided to run amok.
So, why those creatures, powerful as they are, and so desiring of this light that you speak of, why they don’t go themselves inside that dungeon and grab themselves this? Why send you? Why require this from us?
>> Father, if there’s one thing you’ve always said growing up, it is that everything has cost. And price must be paid.
Now, could have not forgotten those words from you.
This is test. Whatever that test may be, and it requires sacrifice. And let me pay the price for this house.
>> You see him, inhales, and says, “Son, you have heard the legends about the Visco. Forget them. Here’s something that no one out there has.
I called my contacts in the Council of Peace, especially the Ministry of High Reach Zone Affairs, and learned something. The Council of Peace sent strike force, one of the best trained in it in the galaxy, to look into Visco, to explore those ruins. And it has been 3 weeks, and they have yet to come out.
have spent real money confirming this. Confirming that no one who went there came back alive, Theodore.
No one knows what happens in there. You have thrown two punches in your life Theodore and lost both of them. How can let you go like this based only on faith?
Is that it? You are asking me to believe in your guts? Is there something that you are not telling me, Theodore?
Something that makes this personal for you? Theodore, now we are going to do uh resistance test. Your father is trying to He has deep deep feeling that you are hiding from him stuff.
And you are You can either decide to tell him the truth of everything that you feel having your soul about this subject, or you can try to hide it from your father. And make up an excuse or half truth if you want.
So, you tell me. >> after resistance um roll. >> Awesome.
So, what you are going to do is you are going to to use presence plus uh persuasion, and I’ll roll for your father here. You You can roll one more dice since you had six. >> [laughter] >> Damn it.
You see that he stops. What are you going to tell him, Theodore? >> I’ll tell him something.
>> I lift up my hand and say, “I need you to have faith in me. need to do this. And plus, while I’ve only thrown two punches, have yes lost them both.
am not that Theodore now. am something little more. ” And lift up my hand again, kind of reminding him.
>> Your Your hand with the augmentation given by the Photoli? >> Mhm. >> Your Your skin shines under the light of the coals of your century-old mansion.
And he looks at the Photoli tech. He stops for second. He inhales and breathes out.
And without word, what he do is he gets the Photoli glyph and touches it. And the Photoli glyph lights turn green, giving you the confirmation that your father has accepted sent you there. will allow you to go, Theodore, against my best judgment, against my instincts, against my gut.
But have I have condition for this. And the condition is that you are going with an escort. have met during my times working as motion since in power passage someone that will take care of you in those ruins.
won’t send you to vehicle with the likes of carving. I have met an ooster. monk who has been member of many battles during the Convergence War.
And he’s currently looking for new path forward in their whatever enlightenment stuff that oosters do. He is member of the Winter Feast path. I’ll and he’ll meet you in vehicle and this is non-negotiable.
He’s going to be your defender in those ruins. Is that clear, my son? >> It’s clear.
>> He pauses. He looks at you in your eyes and say, “Don’t die, Theodore. For real.
If anything happens, just leave. I’m asking this as your father, not as the patriarch of this family. Make sure this is not the last time see my son.
don’t want you to lose you to the horrors of Galia. You are young, my son. You were not there in the Convergence War.
But many terrible things hide themselves in the corners of the stars. Come back to me and your mother. You promise?
>> Of course, I’ll come back. Thank you. >> He gives you sad smile.
