[00:00:00] Hi, this is Matt with the Intergalactic Herald. Welcome to my Star Atlas Week in Review podcast. This is podcast number 83. All articles or videos mentioned can be found on my website at intergalacticherald. com. Just look for news recap number 132. So just a quick summary of some of the things I’ll be going over today.

[00:00:18] Um, it’s been a week, but I should say it was last week, but to me it’s been a week and I was able to get through all the videos and things about the Star Atlas Impact Summit. So I have a lot to say on that. Then just quickly talk about the DAO Council and then end with my kind of two personal segments, kind of my thoughts on the state of Star Atlas and my journey plane.

[00:00:40] So but before I get to that, just want to mention two things. One two of my Star Atlas projects. One is my Star Atlas merch store, which is at intergalacticgear. com. It’s open for business though so far, still just selling mugs. I’m trying to release a second product line, but well, I haven’t had time.

[00:00:56] So, but if you check that out at intergalacticgear. com, I do have a merch survey and love to get any feedback you have on some merch you’d be willing to purchase. And then the second thing is a community kind of I guess I still sort of call it a non guild guild, but it’s really more for people who are Star Atlas gamers, not interested in joining a guild, but yet still want to kind of communicate with people in a smaller group don’t really want to hang out in the Star Atlas discord for whatever reason.

[00:01:22] So looking at producing or creating a community that’s way more ability to fall. So it’s not just chat based, it’s more thread based. You can get the updates via email. So if you go to intergalactic coalition. com I do have an interest survey there once I get enough people interested I’ll be adding that to my project list.

[00:01:40] So, so let’s go ahead and get into the main content sections. As I kind of alluded to the big news, even though it’s been over a week now was the startless impact summit. So it was If you’ve listened to me before, you know I kind of record on the weekend and sort of Friday night news kind of gets pushed on to the other one.

[00:01:55] Well the Starr Isle Summit happened then, but of course that was a really big thing. Able to listen to all the videos that the content creators put out there during then. So in my links, if you go to, again, News Recap number 132 there’s a couple, well, first you can watch the summit in its entirety.

[00:02:11] Star Atlas did put it on their YouTube channel, it was live streamed. I was able to watch I think I watched the first hour live maybe but then just again had other things I needed to do. Actually, I was out having dinner, so it was easy to watch. Yes, it was dinner by myself, so I wasn’t being rude to the people around me, but it was kind of cool to watch live for about an hour and then I had other things I needed to focus on.

[00:02:32] Plus, I knew I wasn’t going to finish it based on the time zone. So some of the content creators have put out different videos beyond the rise in put out some excerpts so that’s really cool. OG Thor did his review and then the Atlas Brew itself, they kind of talked a little bit about some of their thoughts.

[00:02:49] So, kind of putting all that together, just kind of giving you some of my thoughts of the, the Impact Summit as a whole. So, one there were a number of, and again, I don’t know if we call them trailers or demos, but again, definitely gameplay footage of some things or just cinematic chairs. So the trailers, which again, I think it was mentioned that they are cinematics, but they kind of Try to represent what’s going to be in the game and I guess that’s kind of splitting hairs But nevertheless they were awesome to look at so But you would expect that if it was truly a cinematic trailer, they’re gonna obviously make look good But it kind of brought back some of the characters from the original trailer So they’re sign up some kind of continuity there.

[00:03:32] So that was cool One of their demos they did was of the I guess we’re gonna call it a gunplay and I guess it can’t be first person shooter because it’s third person, but I don’t know. I just keep thinking of the shooter aspect. I don’t know. But anyways it did look like Sage. It appeared to be maybe a different map.

[00:03:49] Not a hundred percent sure of that, but again, that did look pretty cool. And again, I’ve always, after the Sage experience like, yeah, that, that would be fun to play. You could jump in and jump out and it’s like that. So they did also show another one and. I’m not, again, 100 percent sure if this was in game, but it sure looked like it, but it kind of showed the possibility of a mission.

[00:04:11] And, again, easiest, just go watch the trailer, but it felt like it was a classic kind of Role playing game where you are a character, you meet somebody, a non playable character, they give you a quest or a mission, you pick a button, the button then causes the character to say something else, and then it moves on.

[00:04:35] And I do admit, this was the first time seeing the ships, seeing now the crew, seeing some of the environments, where it was all put together into what would be considered a game. I mean, that’s happened in many other games. I don’t personally have played the RPG, so but it sure felt like the ones I’ve seen reviews of.

[00:04:55] So, so that was again Really, that first time you could really see, hey, I can imagine myself playing this. So that was really cool to see. And then the Project Galia, which again Staros is great with all their names, but doesn’t really say much. But this was more of the idea of how you could leave a planet, go into space warp or subwarp between the planets.

[00:05:17] And then come back down in. So we’ve, we’ve seen some things before, but this latest, again, is this a demo really showed how this tech can be done. And again, now you’re seeing all the components together. So of the demos and trailers, I mean, you definitely got a great flavor of what’s coming now. Again, coming, nothing was released.

[00:05:38] Nothing was there, but. you kind of see the fruits of all the labor that’s been happening up until then. And these are much more, in my mind, the traditional gaming mechanics as opposed to the crypto stuff and the RTS stuff and things like that. So, so that was always great. It was mentioned during Michael Wagner, the CEO’s keynote he kind of tried to tease that the, the mobile app may come and then he immediately said he was just kidding.

[00:06:02] So it seems pretty for sure that the mobile app is just not something that’s going to happen this year. I think. I think he said that. So also in his keynote, he did mention some of these streaming companies that will be helping with gameplay, and they were listed in the slide, but he was going very fast through them, and again, I know I was watching later, so I can pause and rewind, but there were like three companies mentioned, but I had never heard of them before, but that doesn’t mean they’re not, but Again, that’s great.

[00:06:28] It takes away the idea that that the lack of the browser game isn’t there, but again, until you kind of see all that working, it’s great. There’s some companies mentioned, but, you know so also during the summit, there were different chats, I guess, I think they call them fireside chats, but definitely a panel discussions with different team members from economy to game design to the founders themselves to some others.

[00:06:50] And again, these were great. It was, it was an awesome way to hear from the team. And we’ve heard them on discord before, which is great, but I don’t know why. Just seeing real humans talking, I don’t know, just kind of changed everything. A lot of kudos to the content team, or excuse me, the community team who did kind of the moderating of those panels.

[00:07:11] I don’t know why it was surprising, but I mean, they were really good. So again, it came off as a very well presented, well organized event. So that’s really great. Some other small items that came up is I think it was in, No, I guess it was in the keynote. I was going to say it was in the economy, but it wasn’t.

[00:07:29] But golden tickets are coming back. So if anybody had been around Star Atlas I think it was a year ago we had that. So apparently that’s coming back. And the RFR redemption type of thing within the marketplace is coming back. So it sounds like there’ll be multiple ways to earn Atlas within the game.

[00:07:46] So all that’s not really good. Again, we’ll have to wait and see when, but at least some of those that were the past stuff may be coming back, or are coming back, again, until it releases, you never know. Oh, and I forgot one panel to call out was the DAO chat, so the Dan Park, the Staros legal counsel was there, but also the foundation director, I forgot his name, but he was there, was live, and I know there was lots of comments within the Staros discord earlier about this anonymous person who was really in charge, and, Apparently the way the Star Atlas stuff was written that like this person’s in charge or something.

[00:08:20] So it was one really great that he was live in person. Matt totally sounded like a totally normal guy who knows what he’s doing. Mentioned he’d been helping with other DALs and things like that. So sounds like they got, you know, the right person on there. Again, I’m not into the minutiae of what the rules and, you know, Say, but again, it was kind of cool to do that.

[00:08:39] So to summarize kind of the impact summit, I, I was, I was very very impressed with it. I really enjoyed the live stream, at least the times I was there. The, it, it seemed like a great event. There was tons of tons of information presented. So, I mean, I think it hits so many great. Points now, of course, we couldn’t see the actual conference the gaming tournament, things like that there were a few different videos that have since come out with a little bit of that, and you could kind of get something from the pictures that were on Twitter and things like that, so that part also looked good, but, again, we weren’t, like, given a tour, you know, something like that, so but anyways, overall, I mean, I think it was a great event it, it, it, Yeah, it was just great.

[00:09:23] I mean, there’s nothing wrong with the town halls on discord and things like that, but I don’t know, maybe it was just because it was all organized and there was a schedule and things like that. Everything went really good. So one other thing that was mentioned at the event so I just wanted to call it as a separate as the council vote, at least for the first round was made.

[00:09:40] So it went from whatever the total number down to 12 and then more voting has occurred. And I think. Okay. Last night when I was on the Discord, they announced that the final round to go from 12 to 5 was released. So, I, again, I was processing a lot last night when I was trying to catch up. So anyway, so that’s sort of the content from the team.

[00:10:00] Oh, there was an Atlas Brew. I did listen to that last night. Yeah. I didn’t write down any notes. I think, again, it seemed like it was predominantly them just replaying the videos, which, of course, I’d already seen, and they had some technical difficulties, so it was easy just not to kind of pay attention when I was multitasking, so, but I did, I do think they said they were going to come up with another Atlas Proof that was going to talk about the Hackathon and NABathon winners, which I think is really important, because we I got the list of them, but no links, no nothing.

[00:10:31] So it was kind of hard. So, so anyways, I’m moving on to my kind of two segments. So this kind of state of the star out state of star. So again For my opinion, the impact summit, it was, it was great. It was awesome to have a full day of content to see and hear. I think the, the same part was good.

[00:10:47] The hearing part was good, but I think there was something about live people sitting there talking that really kind of made it the keynote. Michael Wagner’s keynote. I think it was like 30 minutes or so. It definitely continued to show the great possibilities of the future of star Alice. I mean, Compared to prior town halls or year end announcements or middle of the road ones.

[00:11:12] And again, maybe it was just because it was backed up by visuals. Sometimes the town halls don’t always have a lot of visuals to go along with the talk. But it really showed a lot. And, and there was many things mentioned just kind of pop in my head of individual slides with different things like I can’t remember, but there was a lot of stuff and, and anyways, so I’ll get into that on the butts in a second, but and the panels again were incredibly interesting.

[00:11:37] It was nice seeing people that you’ve heard post on discord at least if you’re in the foundation room anyways so, but the topics were good. They, I think hit exactly Things that the community is interested in. And on the final point, the, the project Gallia one, I think, again, finally showed what I’ve always envisioned in star out with some of mine.

[00:11:55] And again, my primary thing about star Alice that got me thinking this was something to get involved with was the space component, the exploration moving between things because that, that it’s not that there hasn’t been other games that allow you to fly ships through space, but that, that That’s what I’ve been thinking about.

[00:12:14] It wasn’t really the shooter or the racing or whatever. It was buying, it was flying ships. And of course we got to buy ships. So it kind of seemed there, but I mean, there’s room for a lot. So so that’s on what was great, but again, big, but the lack of the mobile app, that was just, that was disappointing too.

[00:12:30] And, and again, it’s not really that I want the mobile app, but the crew was released. And now that we only have basically the same functionality in Sage, I mean. I know people are trading them on Tensor, but I mean, okay, fine, but there’s nothing to it. The crew just are there. And the second thing was There were no dates which again, I know star houses not saying dates, but it wasn’t even like anything immediate coming out except the golden tickets.

[00:13:00] Cause again, it was something about four months. I mean, the only not date was the non date for the mobile app, but you know, everything else was kind of like, Oh, we’re working on all this stuff. And it’s like, okay, that’s cool. And again, there’s nothing wrong with status updates and keeping the community updated and all that.

[00:13:15] But at some point, I mean, Starbase came out a while ago. The DAC came out a while ago. Yes, the DAO came out, and now we’re doing cancellation. So that’s something. But, again, those all seem on the peripheral. And, what, I guess if you really get down to the nitty gritty, the one thing that, It was kind of talked about at the summer town hall was this, and again, it’s hard for me to keep in track, the releases, the seasons, whatever, you know, preseason, release zero, whatever.

[00:13:42] I mean, and again, we don’t even know what it’s called, showroom, but whatever. There was kind of, I guess some thought that there’d be something at breakpoint, and then it was pretty much said, oh, there won’t be anything. But now we’re like, well, okay, when? Because. The only thing we talked about are things like gold tickets, which, and RFRs, which are just rated to sage, and crew, which again, seems in the past.

[00:14:04] So, again, not kind of faulting, but it kind of deflates the bubble quickly, I guess. It’s like, oh cool, and then nothing. And given that it’s the week after, and admittedly the team was all traveling back, and I understand all that We got nothing, so, again, it was a great spike, but now it’s immediately dropped, so.

[00:14:26] One other thing on the but side it, it was cool, it was cool to watch. Might have been cool to go there but I’m, I can’t justify a ticket to Singapore. So they announced the next Breakpoint, which again, there seems to be a pattern of Star Allies giving presentations at the Solana Breakpoint Conference, but the next one’s in Dubai, which, I mean.

[00:14:44] I guess it’s closer, but then I was thinking I’m on the Pacific coast of the United States and I’m like, well, Singapore is, is closer just across the Pacific Ocean and Dubai feels like truly the other side of the earth, but maybe the way that, I don’t know, I don’t know. Middle East, I don’t know. I just think it’s in the middle, but but anyway, so again yeah, it, it, it It’s even in December.

[00:15:08] So it’s not just a year from now, it’s a year plus three months. So a lot, a lot could happen. A lot could change, but yeah, I don’t know. Yeah, I wish. One thing, and it was really hard to tell from the videos because the way the camera was positioned, and then there were some chairs in front, you’d see people coming in and out.

[00:15:27] But, at least during the presentations, you could see who was up front. So I don’t know if there were seats behind. But, it just didn’t seem like there was a lot of people in the audience. Now this again, could have just been camera angles, or the topic, or who knows what. But, my understanding, and I did see some.

[00:15:44] Short videos, I think on Twitter or something, that this was on a different floor than the main conference. They had an entrance, it was free, but, and then there was a space for some of the people were had booths or whatever, but then this, uh, not conference room, but the seating area with the stage was off to the side or some other place.

[00:16:02] And so, again, it was really hard to tell, like, how many, a couple times the, the cameras did show the crowd and it, like, looked pretty full. So it could have just, again, been. angles or, or time, but it sure, it sure didn’t feel swamped. And again, it was almost, I think, six or seven hours stream. So, I mean, you know, people aren’t probably going to sit there that long, like we were doing on the video.

[00:16:23] But anyway, so I’ll just be curious if at some point we kind of get a sense of like how many people were actually there that weren’t presenting and weren’t teamed. And then the final thing, and this is kind of, unfortunately, an ongoing thread it is just so hard to be patient. Because, I mean, there’s lots of interesting things.

[00:16:39] I mean, again, like I was saying, seeing the mission was cool, seeing the space part was cool. Even, even the idea of some of these things coming back. But, at the other side, it, kind of, I guess you’re always reminded that most of the things are just so far in the distant future. And, Progress is being made, but at a glacial pace.

[00:17:00] Now, I’ve said this before and I’ll continue to say it, I totally get it’s a resource thing. So the amount of resource that they had before the cash crunch of whatever time and FTX time and all that. I mean, obviously if you put more people on it, things get done faster. And I was just saw an article in PC Gamer Amazing that talked about that Valve, makers of Steam and Half Life have like a crew 300 employees total for the entire business, but big studios have like 10, 000 people.

[00:17:28] I think they said Microsoft Games has 20, 000 employees. So, obviously, if you’re in the 70s, even with the outsourced crews, I mean, you’re, you’re a really small game studio, which is fine. But, again, after some of this, you’re just constantly reminded that This is a patience game and, and it could be not measured in months, but in years, and again, we’ve, we’ve known this for a long time, so.

[00:17:52] And then the last one was again the hackathon We were told the winners, but there was no list of them. There were no links to them. So again, a lot of the projects sounded interesting, but there is no way to find them. And, I don’t know, it just kind of feels like a missed opportunity. That, hey, we got all this and these people won, and unless you’d already heard their names, like, I think Evi won something.

[00:18:14] It was it. There was nothing. And even the overall winner, We weren’t even sure how it was spelled, you know, so again, it just kind of left a Okay, cool. And then nothing. Now, again, at the Atlas brew, they said the next one’s going to be all about them. So that’s fine. But again, it’s like you announce the winners, but then nothing.

[00:18:34] And so you could have hold the list of the announcements and or the list of winners in the, in the announcement, maybe to the brew in two weeks, but anyways, neither here nor there, we’ll probably figure it out. So anyway, so that’s pretty much my thoughts on state. I was, as far as my journey again, did nothing.

[00:18:49] Part of it, I was at a, conference the week before and this week kind of catch up and some other things. So I’m still just resupplying my fleets in the fashion fleet and earning some hours. So anyway, so that’s it. Thanks for listening. Again, if you’re anybody’s interested in being a podcast guest, totally open to community members, just have a chat about the weekend review.

[00:19:07] If you’re a content creator, IP builder, love to talk about your project. If you’re a team member, really love to have you on again, my thoughts aren’t necessarily news, but more of, Hey, I’d love to chat about some things that might be more of interest to beginners. Yeah. Kind of go wrong with my beginner’s guide on my website.

[00:19:22] So just go to interactive carol. com, go to the contact page filled out there. And then just, again my two projects are, I was projects again, my merch store, interactive gear, interactive gear. com. If you’re interested in a mug, I’m shipping to United States. But if not, I really appreciate you fill out the merch survey.

[00:19:37] Give me some ideas on some products to build. And then if you’re interested in a Star Atlas gamer community that’s not on Discord, that’s not part of a guild, just a place to hang out, come and go, not have to just look at a chat, more of threaded discussions email, please go to intergalacticcoalition.

[00:19:53] com and fill out their interest survey there. So thanks for listening to all my thoughts on Star Atlas for the week in review. Hope you have a great week ahead. This is Matt with Intergalactic Herald.
