[00:00:00] Hi, this is Matt with Intergalactic Herald. Welcome to my start list Week in Review podcast. This is podcast number 127. Any articles or videos mentioned can be found on my website@intergalacticherald.com. Just to look for a weekly recap, newsletter 175. So just a quick summary of things that occurred in this past week beyond the Horizon.
[00:00:20] Published another HOL Sim storyline Play through Afia. We used some guides in tutorial. The Atlas Brew occurred and a community, builder hour occurred and the voting for the Joni Awards was released. But before I get to that, actually two things, even one before, sorry. If you’ve regular listener, you may realize this podcast a little bit later.
[00:00:40] Apologize. I had a family activity this past weekend. Went camping. Traffic was terrible on the way back and gotten home. Later than I anticipated. Doing this podcast a day later. So thanks for your understanding on that. But again if you wanna check out some other things I’m working on in star, again, please go to my website, inter g carroll.com.
[00:00:58] It’s a great resource for everything, many things about Star ats. There’s a ER’s guide, directories of different Atlas community things from builders to other content creators. Also, you can of course get the recaps. I have ’em both in the week pass, the weekly email newsletter. But I also have started some AI summary recaps of all the community events.
[00:01:21] And lastly, the most recent thing I’ve released is a discord. Newsfeed where you can get all the announcements from the Starla Discord sent to you via email. So you can find all those things@intergalacticgear.com, I’m sorry, intergalactic caral.com. The other thing I wanna mention is my website for Star Atlas merchant@intergalacticgear.com.
[00:01:40] Open for business just to have a few things. Someday I’ll. Put more into it. Again, too many things going on, especially now with summer. But anyways check it out. I do also have a merch survey there. If you have any feedback on items you’d like to see, please fill that out. Fill that out.
[00:01:54] And then my last project is what I call the Intergalactic Coalition. It’s basically a community for non-gamers in star, or it’s for gamers in Starless who don’t wanna join a guild. Non what was it? Non Guild is what I was calling it. So anyways check that out@intergalacticcoalition.com.
[00:02:13] So again, some of the content that came out this past week again, beyond the Rises, been starting a video series where he is going through Halim specifically the storyline. So he’s playing through that and recording that as you go. So that’s pretty interesting. You wanna check that out.
[00:02:26] This past week, aa, the one of the start, Atlas Guilds published a number of new things. They had some guides and some tutorials. Links to all those can be found on my weekly recap newsletter 175, and just go to my website for them. And then the two big community events this past week was the Atlas Brew.
[00:02:46] They basically were previewing the upcoming community week, which if you’re listening to this now or later, has already started. They went through the different days of community work. Talked about some of the participation awards, rewards they’re gonna give. Including a badge. If you show up to all the events and announcing that as of Monday, which is when I’m recording this, the kickoff event has already occurred.
[00:03:07] So you can check all that out. If you want to listen to the whole, so Atlas Brew from last week starless TV has recordings of that. And then the other section that they did on the Atlas Brew was announcement of new initiatives within marketing for staris. A little bit of history if you’ve been around Starless trial.
[00:03:27] Seras team has been upfront about they haven’t really spent a lot of marketing, and I guess I should back up. When the team was growing prior to their downsizing, they did have a pretty decent size marketing team. I think it was over a dozen. So they were doing a lot of initiatives.
[00:03:41] That was where the never alone kind of event was being run by the marketing team when the layoffs occurred. They. Completely cut marketing and it made sense. And I think still in hindsight, it was again, it all made sense because they really need to focus on a product you can always market later.
[00:03:58] They did recently or within a year ago, it seems like now did hire a marketing director and at some point didn’t work out. So that person was gone. But apparently they are on a new, t And one of the community members or the community team Dominic Vain has been, I guess promoted reallocated.
[00:04:17] I’m not sure how you want to call it, but he’s basically taking over marketing it sounds. So he actually gave some updates on what he’s gonna be working on related to marketing. And I’ll go over that kind of my state of star atlas in a second. There was a star Atlas community team then did on Thursday, a builder hour.
[00:04:35] So again, if you’re interested in building it’s great resource. Actually you didn’t write down anything that was announced it there, but, yeah it’s more of a specialized group. And then I think it was on Friday. Maybe it was Thursday, I can’t remember. But the Joanie Awards, which is one of the community events was open for voting.
[00:04:52] Still well. I assume it’s still open ’cause they’re not announcing the winners until this upcoming Friday. So anyway, so yeah, that was the past week. Predominantly I would say everything was getting in preparation for this week, which is the community week with the kickoff town hall about the UE five next release.
[00:05:09] The Guild Copa presentation, the Joni Award presentation, and then the kind of the ending carnival where throughout the week, through interacting the Starless discord, you can get tickets to put out there. It’ll be a very big week ahead. Haven’t listened to it, but beyond the horizon.
[00:05:24] I think on Sunday, again, I would. Wasn’t even on the internet this past Sunday when I was camping. I gave like a little preview, so that’ll that’ll be there if you wanna check it out. What’ll pre look ahead since I normally recorded these a few days ago. Anyways on the state of star out Yeah, the, about the biggest one I wanted to chat with or give you my thoughts on was the new direction of marketing.
[00:05:46] Full disclosure. And I think, I’m sure I mentioned in the past my day job, I run a small marketing agency. So obviously I’m very interested in the marketing that ROS is doing and how they’re, doing different things. And like I alluded to it, I think it made total sense to when they had to scale back the team.
[00:06:03] And again, it was a substantial scale back. Some departments needed to be just completely deferred till later. And so it is interesting to see both hiring of somebody and then that not working out and now this new direction. First wish Dominic Vain, all the best wishes and, doing things it’s not that marketing is necessarily hard, but it is still something transitions and things like that.
[00:06:24] But what he did say, and I go through it now, I think was a really good one he brought up again about they really do need to get the website updated and. That’s I think a very good place to start. Anybody who checks out now, it is the original website, so it’s. Pretty much has nothing to do with what the product is and different things like that.
[00:06:43] Definitely updating that to make it much more in line with where Star Atlas as a team, as a product, as development I think makes a ton of sense. They also gonna focus on some email marketing and apparently, I guess lots of people are gonna the homepage and give them their email. So a great opportunity I think to out do outreach and, leverage people.
[00:07:02] I know crypto. And not anonymity and things like that. You can get a throwaway email address pretty easy, but it is a push mechanism. Crypto, there’s no way to tell anybody anything through your wallet. So I do think, we have to have some methods of communication and crypto is not really a communication platform.
[00:07:22] It’s for other things. The other thing that was mentioned was they do want to focus on Holim and UE five, which makes a lot of sense. Holim just. Really feels like it’s being developed for that entry product. No crypto, no cost free to earn or free to play. Different seasons tutorials there.
[00:07:40] In fact, it was mentioned this is the only product that has a tutorial. And as someone who’s built beginner guides for Star Atlas over the past few years, yeah, I mean it’s totally opaque. And UE five, I think. And. Could see the handwriting on the wall for the last how many months. I think that makes a lot of sense.
[00:07:55] And again, this Wednesday we will hear more about the next version of the UE five game. So that all makes sense. Sage again, you need the economy. It’s there, you can learn it. There’s lots of tutorials. I have some beyond the rise. I have some, AFIA has some, so the community has stepped up to fill in the gaps there.
[00:08:12] There’s the automation tools and things like that, but again, marketing, I wouldn’t say is about necessarily telling everything. It’s deciding what story you wanna tell and what you wanna promote, what you wanna raise awareness for. So Hol sim and UE five makes a ton of sense. It was also mentioned they really want to finally get their YouTube channel working, and I’ve always.
[00:08:31] It felt like that was a missed opportunity. You have people like Beyond the Horizon and Metaverse Explorer doing videos and hard to find the the videos for the team that are just posted on Twitter and stuff like that. So that also makes sense. And then the last two was mentioned they’ve already started outreach to other content creators, so that’s great.
[00:08:49] Lots of people have audiences, whether they come content creators or influencers. Same thing. Get audience, get people who already have audiences to talk about your product. Makes a ton of sense. And the last thing I mentioned is really emphasizing kind of game nights. So this, I think, goes right back to the UE five thing and, doing that.
[00:09:04] So overall, I think this is just a great, and again, I’m sure there’s other things they decided not to mention or are in the works or take longer, but this is a really great marketing strategy and marketing plan to move out. And I wouldn’t be surprised. We actually learn more about that in the next couple weeks with all these three town halls coming out.
[00:09:23] Yeah. So again I think it’s great. I’m glad the team is finally talking about marketing. Finally gonna do some things out there. And these all seem like very, small lifts, big returns and things like that. So I think that’s all great. Anyway, so I’ll just wrap up in the kind of final thing, talk about my journey playing Star Atlas.
[00:09:42] Actually as of today, I finally finished mining titanium Moore. It’s my second farthest resource out. My fleet’s still moving back all the diamond, but eh, it’s the farthest one out there. Illuminate’s, done mining whatever I needed. I think it was. 7,007 million or something. So I took my minor and moved it to the next one.
[00:10:00] And it’s funny, as you move in on the medium risk zone the lower numbers are really close. So it’s wow. I think again, this new strategy of getting all this stuff farthest way back. We’ll see how long it takes to move all the diamond, then I’ll move that fleet back over and grab all the titanium more, and then we’ll just keep the miner going through.
[00:10:18] One interesting thing I didn’t realize is two of, or I forgot. Two of the materials, Luminate and ah, I forget the other one. Anyways, they’re at the same star base, so that miner basically can. Just sit there and do one, and then sit there and do the other, and then that obviously would be better for transport too.
[00:10:34] So anyways, yeah. Slowly making progress on my Mamba X. Beyond that, yeah, I haven’t really been doing anything else. Really appreciating beyond the rise and doing the Hall Sim. It does look really interesting. It, and I’ve mentioned this before, it’s just lack of time especially now with summer and some family activities getting into something.
[00:10:52] But, yeah. And, but I think they were talking about different seasons on that, so it may be something down the road. Yeah, so that’s pretty much it. Just to wrap up, thanks for listening again. If you want to check out my website, intergalactic Herald, of course, the podcasts there, my email newsletters, directories, recaps the Discord News.
[00:11:09] You can get all those there on my website. Again, if you’re interested in any Star Atlas merch, please go to inter interactive gear.com. Take a look at the limited selection. But please fill out your merch survey and I will ask for your email. And so I can give you a feature announcements. Hence I believe in email marketing.
[00:11:24] And lastly again, if you’re interested in joining a group of gamers who aren’t gonna be. Interested in joining guilds, please check out intergalactic coalition.com. So that’s pretty much it. I will preface anyone who’s listening to the end may be delayed on a couple more podcasts the rest of the summer with some other family activities.
[00:11:41] Again apparently all depends on how traffic is getting home. Sometimes to have enough time to get this one out by my, tr typical Sunday evening published date. Anyways thanks for those who have hung out to the end listen to that. Otherwise have a great week ahead. This is Matt with the Intergalactic Herald.
