[00:00:00] Hi, this is Matt with Intergalactic Herald. Welcome to my Star Atlas Week in Review podcast. This is podcast number 119. Any articles or videos mentioned can be found on my website@intergalacticherald.com. Just look for news recap number 1 67. So just a quick summary of things to go over this week from the past week there.

[00:00:18] Those was all away last weekend, but there was a I shouldn’t say first ever, but definitely, first big star Atlas tournament called Iris Quest. So I’ll talk about a little bit of the highlights of that. There was the Atlas Bar where they talked about level design and maps, and then there was an announcement made in the Star Atlas Discord that next week, this upcoming week, they’ll be a town hall with a bunch of new updates on things.

[00:00:43] But before I get into content, just wanted to go over some of the things I’m working on Starless first again, I wanted to. Always mention, you can check out my website, intergalactic caral.com. It’s a great resource website for many things about Star Atlas. Obviously you can find this podcast. My weekly news recap do have a beginner’s guide directories of many other star atlas things from content creators to builders and the guilds.

[00:01:07] But I am working on three new things that you can find on the website. The first is actually an enhancement to my podcast. So instead of just the analysis here. I do have a, what I’m calling a recap podcast that uses AI to summarize the public community events that the Star Atlas community team puts on.

[00:01:25] So like the Atlas Brew lore keepers economic form. Basically what I’m doing is using AI to both summarize those typically one hour meetings and then do a text to speech ai. Still trying to figure out exactly which voice to use for that. But those will. Come, I think they’re ran ranging around between five to eight minute type of summaries.

[00:01:45] The written text is also available on the website, so if you want to read it instead of listen to it, those are available. Also have now started an eSports section on my website, based on the tournament that occurred this last week. Working with those people that are producing the tournaments or leagues, getting some approval to copy their text and images.

[00:02:04] So I hope to start having some. Both history tournament occurred, what were the rules, who won, things like that. And then if there’s a future one coming up, help to add some of that information there so that there’s another place where you can maybe go and find a summary of everything. And then also gonna enhance the beginner’s guide with the latest.

[00:02:23] UE five patch that are now seem to be coming out regularly. So I wanted to start adding that into my beginner’s guide. So we’re just gonna call it the preseason content. So the first update I’m gonna do is just basically what’s available in those. Not really videos partly because the way that they’re updating the game more frequently.

[00:02:41] Videos become outdated quite quickly. So I was gonna actually just do kind of some screen captures, which are a lot easier to swap in and out if there’s any visual changes in the game. Look forward to putting that in the beginner’s guide in the next few weeks. Lastly just two other projects I’m working on.

[00:02:54] One is my start West Merch store at Inactive Gear. Open for business, just having a few products, mugs, and I’m trying to. Build out some Walmart. So if you go to intergalactic gear.com, you can take a look at there. Also do have a merch survey, so I’d love to get any feedback on merch you’d like to see there.

[00:03:09] And then lastly am trying to work to build a Star loss community. This is more focused on just gamers, people who are not interested in joining Guild, but yet never want, nevertheless, wanna hang out with some people. So if you go to intergalactic coalition.com, there is an interest survey there.

[00:03:25] So go ahead and get into the main part, which is the content that occurred this last week. And it may be the main part, but there wasn’t a lot. So the biggest actually there were two events. One was, let’s see, last Sunday actually, I’m forgetting who. But again, that’s part of why I’m putting on my website or no more.

[00:03:40] But there was a Star Atlas tournament. This was a gunplay tournament in one of the new maps and it was multiple teams. I think. And again, I have more information on my website once I remember or figure it all out. I think it was like, like about 10 teams and they had some sort of initial rounds and then they had a, what do you call it? Bracket of play against you, win, you go on. And then there was a finals. Again, trying to put some of that information on my website. Iris Quest does have a discord, so you can check that out if you want. Falco did a highlights video where he took some of the streaming content and put some highlights.

[00:04:15] That’s actually in my weekly news recap you can look at again, news recap number 1 67. And I’ll get a little more into it when I just talk about eSports in general, but I. Again, that was the, one of the biggest new things the Atlas Brew did appear. It did happen this last weekend, or sorry, this last week on Wednesday.

[00:04:31] This one was talking about level design and maps, and they had one of the level designers come on and talk about how the gunplay maps particularly the one they were using in the tournament came. How it was developed. So that was actually a great insight. If you just want the overview. Again, I do have the new recap, audio and text.

[00:04:50] You can find that on my website. Or if you’re already subscribed to this podcast feed, you’ll have already received that one a couple days before. Still trying to figure out a time to publish those. But still working out how to get it all done. Uhhuh, there’s a lot of AI parts involved. Anyways, and then didn’t get a did get announced on the official.

[00:05:09] Excuse me, on the town hall, excuse me. There was an official announcement on the stylist Ski Discord of this upcoming week that instead of the Atlas Brew, they’re gonna actually have a town hall and they were gonna go over some new updates. They said they’ll talk about the new C four updates.

[00:05:25] A little bit about the free to play Hall sim and I wanna say there was a third bullet point, but again better to just go to the town hall or listen to, the video. I guess I could try to do a recap. Yeah, maybe I’ll do that anyways. Should be a lot of ways, but again, I think they jokingly called it an announcement of announcement.

[00:05:43] Again, we’ll see how that town hall goes. Does seem to be following their typical cadence of something in December and then something in the middle of the year. That’s good. Definitely interested in hearing some more updates, but hard to, and not worth speculating about what, or may or may not be announced.

[00:05:59] Though I. Do get the feeling that nothing will be released. More of just updates, which again is totally great. So anyway, so yeah, that’s pretty much it this past week. Moving on to the last or the other two segments, my thinking of the state of Star us and my journey on the state of Star Alice.

[00:06:15] I have to admit the Iris Quest tournament really got me thinking more about eSports and I think I may have alluded to in my last podcast that. I’ve not been against eSports. It’s more of been a personal thing, which was if I wasn’t playing the game, it was really hard to, watch.

[00:06:33] And again, not to use the analogy of other sports, but I may not be a football player, but I, ever. But he played play or touch football and not everybody, sorry, I play, as a typical male in, in grade school. Of course we played the sports on recess. So you know, you played baseball, you play basketball, you play things, just how I was, even if I was more of a geek too.

[00:06:56] You still. I dunno, just play. But anyways, about eSports, again, if the game wasn’t something I was interested in, it’d be really hard to watch. ’cause I have no understanding of that. So that was predominantly the reason I wasn’t really, haven’t really been into eSports traditionally, but I was really excited to give it a shot.

[00:07:13] So I did watch some of the live parts of it. In fact I had a great conversation with my, let’s say teenage son, but he’s not a teenager anymore. So call young adult son. 20-year-old. Yeah, there we go. Call him a 20-year-old, 20-year-old son about eSports, which he’s way more into it and had actually some great feedback that things I had didn’t even realize.

[00:07:33] But anyways, it was really cool to see. I really did enjoy it and we were trying to chatting where things were going. ’cause again, it wasn’t all there, but and I don’t want to fault the tournament people, the announcer any of that. I think it was great that it was there. I just found it hard to watch.

[00:07:48] And I wanna break that down into two things. One it was physically hard to watch, but I think that’s some personal condition. And I forgot about this ’cause I haven’t played many shooters. I’m much more of a real time strategy, but I have played shooters in the past and I would get nauseous. And I know that is not uncommon.

[00:08:06] Some people get it. And so I’ve had to, in the past on shooters, not do full screen, do some other tricks like that. So I think it was literally just watching it. Getting queasy. But again, that’s no one’s fault that, that’s just my physiology. But and my son was actually commenting on this and when he mentioned it, it started making sense.

[00:08:26] It was hard to follow the action and I mean that in the way that like, he was subscribing at some other games, have titles that float above their head. So again, they were just all, red characters or blue characters. Really hard to even know who was who. So there was probably that, and it was just hard to follow what was going on.

[00:08:44] Now this what be in, again, my son was kinda explaining that, there was only one single camera angle. Which again sounds like that’s just how the game is. There’s really no other option. So it was this or nothing. But it definitely made me feel like, more cameras and again, do the kind of queasiness.

[00:09:00] I was also like, I just wanted the static camera and I was using the example of a basketball game or American football games where you have a camera kind of at the center court or 50 yard line, and then they can pan left and right. So you can. Quote unquote, center yourself on that.

[00:09:17] And actually wanted to spend a little more time looking at that map. ’cause when we were listening to the Atlas Brew, I thought the way of a designer said there was a camera mounts or something. It, they may have already been designing the levels with the idea of a camera. That got me intrigued to check it out myself.

[00:09:33] But maybe again, just more cameras, which again, not something the. I tournament people or the announcer had any control over. But in the end I was actually really hopeful for the future in the sense that I think the other thing that was really interesting was that the names mentioned, they’re in the community.

[00:09:49] We, we know ’em, they’re not just nameless sports figures or whatever. And I. Same reason why I think other sports are Inca engaging. I could really see this becoming there. Again, might just depend. I was too queasy. But yeah, and again, hopeful for the future. Look forward to it and hence one of the reason I wanted to start putting some of the content on my website too.

[00:10:08] So plus it’ll help me learn about it. And then on Monday, which was United States Memorial Day. I think I told I was gonna finally try to spend some time, I took the day off of work and finally play the latest UE five version slash the showroom. And I was actually able to play it for about two hours and I’ll use play in close because really all I did was explore everything that you could look at and go into.

[00:10:33] And so I’ll go over some of that there. But this was again, another reason why I thought, I should. Share this stuff with everyone on my beginner’s guide so that you know what you can actually do. Just wanted to quickly go through and give some thoughts on the different features that I found.

[00:10:46] Number one of course was the hosting. Yeah, definitely. Very cool. Glad it’s there. Great that it has the different options between public and private and invitations and different places you can go, or excuse me, different things you can look at in the hosting. So you can again, share multiplayer, not just, you can do the gun play, you can do the races, but just even some of the other things. So definitely glad, and I’ve been saying that I think this option of dedicated servers where it’s not just hosted on one person’s computer for technical reasons is very cool and definitely something I’m glad to see and hopefully this is there forever.

[00:11:19] The other one I looked at was suite command and. I have seen screen captures and other content creators show it before. And so I was like, yeah, this is really showing the potential. But when I got into myself I was like, okay. And it zoom around. It seems like the commands are there, but I don’t think they’re there ’cause there’s no blockchain integration yet.

[00:11:40] So it, it looked really cool that there’s the potential and you can quote unquote, see the blockchain, but. That was it. I just didn’t know what else to do other than, yeah. Okay. So again, good development, but yeah, we’ll see. Training, the training area I think was the biggest one because it, again, it had everything.

[00:12:01] So it had the different shooter maps, had the different racing maps, went around a few of those racing. Obviously the showroom was there, spent a little time in there. Having my ships come in, taking a look at them. It was interesting that some of them have moved further along at least on the exterior, couldn’t walk in ’em, but a couple of mine you could smaller ships were flyable.

[00:12:20] So I was able to fly around and I think I remember the last time I was in there, it was a boundary, but it looks like that’s been taken away physical boundary around. So again, just definitely showing the development and all that. But I like the idea that all those areas exist. And then the last place I checked out was the.

[00:12:35] What I think they call project Gallia. I think it was just listed as Gallo, but this was the one where you should be able to move from planet to planet. Had to guess which was the sub warp command, but apparently I finally guessed right or something. It’s the letter B. So I was able to sub warp between one planet forget where you start, but doesn’t matter.

[00:12:54] And then sub warp to another planet, trying to figure out that mechanic. I got to the planet, wasn’t sure how I was gonna crash into it, but apparently it slows down automatically and then got to the planet and trying to land, forgot what the landing gear command was, and then got outta the ship and walked around a planet, which of course was empty, but.

[00:13:14] I wasn’t expecting anything in there because again, this is more of a show that you can go from point to point. So I have to admit, and again, this might be bias ’cause I got interested in, started out with, because it was a space sci-fi game, space exploration things like that, that I. Yeah it really showed the potential of all the things about Star Atlas that got me get, again, nothing wrong with the racing, nothing wrong with the shooting, nothing wrong with those kind of multi-part things.

[00:13:43] And again I’m glad they’re there. Space Station, oh, that was the everyth thing. I went around the was it the only space station looking at all those things, so that was cool too. But, yeah, definitely. The ability to move between planets was really was really impressive, even if there was nothing when I got there.

[00:13:58] But it does show the potential, and again, I could imagine I’m hoping I can imagine that again, here’s a planet, you can I guess I’m using a little bit of the example of Minecraft for people who played that. You discover a world and you don’t know what’s there and you start exploring it, and then you could build stuff and do stuff.

[00:14:16] And that to me is that’s the exploration part. That’s the not territorial, but ownership. You can put your claim stake. I think claim stakes is how it works. We’ll put those down and then we can build around them. Harvest stuff, have space stations, things like that. So yeah, it that, there wasn’t much to do.

[00:14:33] I don’t think I’ll. Come back into it anytime soon, unless I know, Ooh, there’s an idea. What can you see? Somebody probably has explored things, huh? That’s it. I’m gonna, I’m gonna write that down somewhere. Anyways sorry I got totally abstract with that idea. Like where can you go or where’s the map or.

[00:14:52] Yeah I don’t have a post-it note. I’ll try to remember that. Anyways. So great. We show the thing. So to summarize at least the latest version, it was good to look through it. Glad I finally made that effort finally put my video card to use. But I’m not sure why I’m gonna go back in again.

[00:15:09] And that feels a little. Harsh, but again, there was no replay. And again, it could be from my perspective as liking single player campaigns, but again fleet command there so is potential. There’s nothing there training that makes sense. And I think could definitely appeal to other people, who wants to try out the racing, try out the shooting.

[00:15:28] But again, there’s gotta be a reason to come back. And again, just playing with your friends is a reason. Enough. Showroom’s still cool ’cause you can look at your ships, but, I guess you can fly ’em. No, I guess you can’t fly them around yet. You have to fly. No, I’m sorry. You in the gall, you can span your own ships, I think, because I don’t think my ship was there.

[00:15:47] Yeah. So anyway, so showroom was great for looking, maybe something like the gall project Gall is where you can finally really use them. But there’s again, just not, you’re exploring just for the sake of exploring. Not that the anything’s permanent yet. Awesome technical level of forward progress in developing the concepts, but the engagement is still to be determined.

[00:16:11] And again, they never promised that it was done. This is just again, moving forward again, much like their, and I didn’t even explore it ’cause I didn’t. Remember what the keystrokes were like the new mining part. So again you definitely see that, and I go back to actually last year when they did the demo with the the mission that sure looks like you could tell where they quote unquote film some of that parts of it where you would zoom between planets to do something.

[00:16:36] It’s definitely the building blocks are there. Yeah glad I finally did it. Glad to see everything. Wanna do some documentation to help other people figure out some of this stuff. I just wish I could say, yeah, I’m looking forward to checking X out and I don’t know what X is.

[00:16:50] So there’s that. And then the final thing on the kind of state of star s about the Atla Bruin, seeing the de the level design and the maps. It was so great to hear some of that. Seeing some of the ideas, how they had some ideas they had to turn it back, seeing the progression of things.

[00:17:06] That kind of behind the scenes development things rated design is just cool. It’s just really awesome to see. So I really appreciate that the community teams facilitating, bring some of the level designers and map designers out and give ’em a chance to talk about what they’re doing and things like that.

[00:17:21] So anyways, so that’s pretty much it there. Finish up on the last section, which is what I’ve been doing, playing star hours. So again, other than checking out the, latest version of the UE five game. Still, mining. So still working to move all my carbon back to the space station again, with my goal of crafting a MABA X ran out of fuel.

[00:17:38] So I did a whole bunch of mining of hydrogen. Interesting since I’m also mining diamond simultaneously, but now I realize hardness does matter. Definitely mine hydrogen faster, I assume because the hardness is lower. So got a lot of that. Did some crafting. Got that fleet back to transport and it’s now moving the carbon back.

[00:17:56] Finally got under 10 million. And this is actually, I wrote this up a couple days ago. I’m actually down to 7 million. So end is in sight to finally get that first resource done. My dyin mining with, again, my new strategy, which is mine. All the stuff at the farthest away things that are potentially in the combat zones.

[00:18:13] My little. M minor guy is out doing hiss thing. Definitely moving forward, and I have to admit at this point a sense of accomplishment is growing. Partly finishing something, working off to the next step, see some progression going really. Liking that the local markets exist when they do have resources.

[00:18:31] ’cause the minor, I haven’t had to take any fuel or food out there. Or buy it, buy at the local market. Yeah it’s all there. Definitely would be glad, hopefully crossing my fingers that this week the carbon gets done and then I can work on getting that diamond thing done. I think I’ll actually send the fleet out and help do on the mining, figured two mining at the same time is gonna get done.

[00:18:52] Faster and then move that mine back to the next one, and then work with my fleet to ferry all that back. Given the volume and even though the distance is larger, it feels should be able to move it in a, realistic timeframe type of thing. So anyways, that’s kinda what I’m doing there.

[00:19:07] So that’s pretty much it. Thanks for listening. Again, just wrapping it up with again, totally open. If anybody wants to be a guest on the podcast, love to chat about the week in review. Talk to content creators or builders about what they’re working on. Of course, obviously always it would be, happy to talk to any team members that might be interested to talk about any, again, topics that might be more interesting to beginners. Don’t need any alpha or future looking, just Hey, what’s star Atlas? What are you working on? Things like that. And again do check out my website. Integrate to har.com, many resources, ready to star Atlas guide guilds, directories, recaps, podcasts, things like that.

[00:19:44] Also, do have my merch store in InterG gear open for business mugs. Few wall art. Love to fill out a merch survey and again, if you’re a star, US gamer, not interested in joining a guild, but do want to get together with other star US gamers in a different environment than this scored, please check out Intergalactic Coalition.

[00:19:59] Have a survey there you can fill out. Once we get enough people, I’ll start working to build that community. Other than that, thanks for listening. This is Matt with the intergalactic Herald. Hope you have a great week ahead.
