[00:00:00] Hi, this is Matt with the Intergalactic Herald. Welcome to my Star Atlas Week in Review podcast. This is podcast number 104. Any articles or videos mentioned can be found on my website at intergalacticherald. Look for news recap number 152. So just a quick summary of things to go over. There was a Atlas brew from the community team but they actually had a kind of announcement of something called some addendums to the Atlas locker.
[00:00:26] And then I think it was also on Wednesday the Staros team also put out an announcement on Medium about fleet rentals. So that’s pretty much the extent of the news. And then I’ll do my kind of thoughts on kind of the State of Star Atlas and then my journey playing Star Atlas. Before I get to that, just a couple things to mention.
[00:00:43] One I am moving through the process of submitting a DAO PIP, which is a proposal for developing some things within the Star Atlas ecosystem. You can, it’s for in, in, sorry, in person community meetup platform. So, go to the Star Atlas Discord, look at the DAO section, and this time it’s actually in draft.
[00:01:03] Pips, you’ll see that. Again, my name’s there. In person community meetup platform totally. Would love to hear any feedback, any suggestions to refine before it goes to the next phase. So greatly appreciate any input. Also, I do have a Star OS merch store. It’s very small right now. It’s called Intergalactic Gear.
[00:01:19] It can be found at intergalacticgear. com. So far just mugs, a couple wall art in the form of posters that match the Star Atlas what were they called, rebirth posters. So hope to Put more posters up and develop some other products, but kind of working on that pip And then do have the idea of starting a starless gaming community called intergalactic coalition It’s basically for gamers that aren’t a member of any of the official starless guilds And who would prefer a kind of more asynchronous communication platform as opposed to the Stardust Discord, where again, it’s mainly chat.
[00:01:54] So, go to intergalacticcoalition. com, fill out the interest survey there. Once you get enough people that are interested, I’ll go ahead and start working on that platform, so. So as I mentioned, there was only kind of really two things that were mentioned. One was in the Atlas brew Michael Wigner, the CEO came on to talk about an addendum to the Atlas locker.
[00:02:14] So I’m not, I’m not a person sure they showed well actually I should back up. First it wasn’t an official announcement. It was more to start gathering community feedback before they. Release it and or don’t release it or change it. He did mention kind of at the end that it will require some development time to implement different things.
[00:02:32] So sounds like there’s a document, because they were showing something but kind of hard to read on share though, again great thanks to Star OS TV for recording it, but again, not really. You know, small text shared on a screen, so it’s not the recorder’s fault, it’s that, yeah, they didn’t want to release the document, I guess.
[00:02:51] But anyways they talked about it, so they did go over different things. Now, I was kind of Sort of paying attention, but I do admit when they said, well, we’re looking for feedback and stuff, and kind of understand what the current Atlas Locker does in the sense that if you stake your Atlas tokens, you get discounts in the StarOz marketplace for fees.
[00:03:12] Sounds like they want to expand that with different levels, some other benefits or whatever, but yeah, I mean, I’m overall agree with the idea, but Hard, hard to get too excited since it’s just being in the community feedback phase, but anyways, it was great. They were sharing and I’ll kind of talk a little more of my thoughts in a second, but and then they was alluded to at this one and again originally it was announced at this start.
[00:03:38] Atlas brew would have been about fleet rentals, but later in the day, the starless team did have an announcement of the fleet rentals. It’s a medium article. If you go to my website, intergalacticherald. com, look for news recap number one 52, you’ll find an article, or I’m sure you can search on medium and find star Atlas there.
[00:03:54] So they did go over kind of the general ideas. Most of the article, was more about scenarios that may occur. They did kind of talk about the mechanics of how it work, but Feels like we’ve heard more of the details before so again, but they put a date. I’m pretty sure it was early aug, excuse me, early March.
[00:04:13] So sounds like everything’s ready to go from the back end and, and just starting to announce to the community. So I think again, that was great. Was one of the features they had been talking about that is quote, you know, near. So the fact that, you know, early March, that’s a, that’s a great rollout. So so anyways, that was pretty much it on the content front.
[00:04:31] Yeah, other things in my newsletter, or my news recap was AFIA puts out their weekly newsletter, so you can definitely take a look at that. Again, get the things that happened the past week. Oh haven’t watched it yet, but it’s in the links. Beyond the Horizon did his take on the fleet rental announcement, so I’ll be listening to that this weekend.
[00:04:47] But yeah, that’s pretty much it on the content. So moving into my next session, kind of my state of Star Atlas. Yeah, talking about the Atlas Locker Yeah, again, like I kind of alluded to, not having access to the document to be able to read and they were kind of skimming it, so again, nothing wrong, it’s just hard to get too engaged when, again, it’s, it’s just the, the first release preview may or may not happen.
[00:05:09] May happen at some point needs more development time. So, but I think as a general concept the idea of, I don’t want to say investment, but more of showing your support of something through the staking mechanism, which then has some time commitments, whether it’s Atlas, I think. I think to unstake it to get back.
[00:05:31] It takes like 21 days pulse locker being a different mechanism, but the idea of if you, and I think, I think this was mentioned, this was actually kind of, I think really an interesting way to look at it is if you earn Atlas in the game, which is pretty much what we’re trying to accomplish. I mean, again, I admit, I’m trying to grab a ship.
[00:05:51] But most of the people are doing the, what are they, infrastructure contracts and DLP rewards, which I’m pretty sure both those result in Atlas. If you then take those gains and basically kind of, I guess, reinvest back into the game by locking it, and then that gives you perks or levels for reduced fees or something like that It does feel right.
[00:06:12] Now, this is the part of the kind of economic stuff that just isn’t, isn’t my thing nor my interest, but it’s like, does that help the price? Does that encourage more playing? Yeah. And again, they’re, they’re way smarter people than I in the team and in the community that knows the benefits of all this. So yeah, so it all sounds good.
[00:06:35] The idea of improving the benefits taking what is currently existing within the locking atlas and giving more reasons to do it. That obviously seems good. And again, if there’s benefits, yeah, it all seems good. So overall, I mean, I think it’s a good development. I mean, it’s a good thing. It’s something we can do now.
[00:06:52] Something that could happen now definitely interacts with the Sage as opposed to the The shooters or the racing game in the UE5 engine. So again, all kind of good. I think there was also some alluding to that. This may or maybe I’m confusing with free or now, but you know, again, encourage others to start coming in the community that aren’t just the traditional gamers, maybe more of the crypto people that sees this as opportunity.
[00:07:15] So again, I, I don’t. see any downside to any of this. So it’s just hard to follow and, again, couldn’t read my leisure type of thing. You know, again, they were just summarizing and couldn’t really, or highlights maybe, so. And then the other thing that did come out is the fleet rental. So again, there’s an announcement date so I assume if you’re putting a date on it, it’s ready to go, subject to, I’m sure there might be some bugs, but again, that’s to be expected.
[00:07:41] So I think overall, great new feature something people have been talking about for a long time. So again, other terms like scholarships or I thought they had another term they used for kind of the idea. Scholar? Yeah, I guess it’s scholarship scholars. Anyways, the idea that there could be people who don’t have enough, uh, money to invest to buy a fleet to then do things so they can basically rent it so you can kind of have a smaller or lower entry point to be able to play with a larger fleet.
[00:08:09] The idea that some people have larger fleets but don’t have the time so again it could be definitely a win win situation. Will be interesting to see the The actual mechanics, but again, I’m sure this has been tested because we did see some early previews of the actual operation, I think, at the town hall that occurred at the end of December, so yeah.
[00:08:31] And, I was gonna say, they mentioned that this was a third party that they were working with or something, but I’m not sure about that, so but it doesn’t really matter, I mean, they’re using third parties to develop the UE5 game, so that’s fine. So yeah, so I think Yeah, it’s just great development.
[00:08:46] Great to have something new. But on the kind of, is this a quote unquote game changer? I mean, still very positive vibes from the local markets. Again, I haven’t personally interacted with the United States, but that’s a question of time. But they exist. People are talking about them. And again, I think it really opens up the game.
[00:09:01] So this one, too, does feel like it could open up the game. But part of me is just unsure of, like, how many people actually have fleets to rent. And the reason I say that is, if, if I already invested in a fleet and I’m playing in Sage with it, I don’t know why I would rent it back out because I feel like I would know how to use it better.
[00:09:23] So I think, again, that that’s an aspect. On the other hand, are there people who are willing to rent who actually know what they’re doing so they can actually maximize a fleet? Because again, we don’t know the specifics, but I’m like, is the person renting the fleet guaranteed a return because the person rented it?
[00:09:43] And if they Don’t make anything from it, then at least you still get your initial fee, but you don’t get any bigger benefits. So, again, I think there’s a little, there’s obviously more to learn, but again initial announcement, much could come out before the product actually goes live. The other thing is, is there enough people?
[00:10:03] And one thing this has always been talked about is this will get people to finally leave the faction fleet and move on over to active play. And. On the surface, that totally sounds right. As I mentioned in the past, I’ve been staying in Faction Fleet only because of lack of time to move, and again, I don’t have a ton of ships.
[00:10:22] But, if people have shall we say, lost interest in Star Atlas short of selling their ships, which, again, seems like they could have done, but if they had bought it at original price and now it’s worth a fraction of that you may not care about recouping. The minimal, and you just say, well, it’s already gone.
[00:10:41] So, one, do those people even know this is coming? Have they been even following the community? Unlike say a traditional thing where you might have some contact information, of course, wallets are just wallets. You can’t send messages to a wallet. So, those people may not even know. So But, in the end, it doesn’t matter because we’ll see.
[00:10:58] It’s a great feature, definitely. People have been asking for a feature like this for a long time. So simply having it, whether it’s a game changer or better for the future, whatever, I mean, we’ll see. You know, it depends. But yeah, so I think those are just some of the interesting things to be watching for as it goes forward.
[00:11:16] Yeah, so, but again, overall, good feature just to see how many people are actually interested in doing it, so. Moving on to the final section, kind of just my journey so, I decided to kind of throw in the towel a little bit on my whole mining, hydrogen, to craft it to fuel, to fuel, fill my transport fleet.
[00:11:36] It just wasn’t keeping up, and even my claim stakes couldn’t keep up. So, definitely need a lot more fuel. So, I decided just to stop that one ship, because in a sense I was doubling the number of transactions, so, why do it? So, I sent that one back to the faction fleet to start just earning Atlas again, and then I took the main fleet, once it ran out of fuel, so it stopped at the Central Space Station.
[00:12:00] So I just switch that to start mining hydrogen and stockpile that up and then I’ll just do one large single transaction to have that all crafted into fuel and then send the fleet back out to do the transport. So, so that one sounds good. And again, I know I say this every week. Someday I’m going to look at local markets and all this, but Yeah, it should.
[00:12:23] But I did see one thing pop up in the Star Eschus Court. Apparently the Mamba X supply to redeem, not craft, in the game is disappeared. And then there was the thought they said they would change the recipe. And I’m like, but I calculated everything based on, well, yeah. So at first I thought I kind of, Frustrated, but then I realized that they never promised that they would never change so you can’t totally get upset and The ships at least the Mumbax and the Max Hogg they never said these are the crafting again this whole idea of ship blueprints And then you put resources in and out pops a ship.
[00:13:02] So That’s not what this is. It’s more again redeeming. So the fact they want to change the recipe, I guess I really can’t Don’t be too upset about that. The only downside is I’m sure the recipe will get harder. So, you know, I guess this is the problem of having a smaller fleet and taking months to even get one, I guess I’m on the second out of I can’t remember, six or seven resources, so oh well.
[00:13:26] But again, I can’t imagine the recipe will get smaller or easier or something. So you know, never, just have to modify now. So But it does make me kind of remember thinking to the future that if we, when we do get to shipcrafting, true shipcrafting I sure hope those blueprints are fixed. I, I, I don’t know, maybe there can be inflation, maybe there can, I don’t know, I guess I shouldn’t say they should never change, but I don’t know.
[00:13:52] I guess, I guess if it changes Yeah, maybe here’s the way. I’d be okay if the ship crafting blueprints change, is if they change for things that are common in a economy. So, it Let’s see, how can I put this? Yeah, because I was about ready to say like a car, but I see a car changes. I mean, year to year they put new features on it, so you don’t Have no expectation the price will stay same year over year.
[00:14:17] Yeah, okay, so I guess that’s the key. So first thing would be, the ship can’t change. If the ship changes, then I’m totally fine if the resources and the time or whatever changes, but the ship model can’t change. But, we know there are other factors that cause the ability to create it to change. So maybe it takes the same amount of resources, but those resources cost more or something.
[00:14:39] So, again, I haven’t really thought this through and we haven’t ever heard when crafting is coming, so this is totally speculation. But anyways, a little bit of disappointment, but quickly Just let go because it doesn’t really matter if they change it. So we’ll see what that comes out. Seems like they were talking that maybe this will be the end of the month.
[00:14:57] But we’ll see. But anyways, then I’ll recalculate and see. And maybe I’ll look at local markets and maybe I’ll start selling stuff. And so I don’t have to do so much transport. So, anyways. So that’s sort of where I’m at right now. I think just as I started this podcast I ran out of ammo or something.
[00:15:11] So I think I probably have As much hydrogen as I was going to do, so I’ll send it back out to start moving. So anyways, so that’s pretty much it on my thoughts. Just to kind of wrap up, again, totally open if anybody wants to be a guest on the podcast. Again, looking for community members who just want to chat about the Week in Review.
[00:15:26] If you’re a builder or a content creator, I’d love to chat and learn more about your involvement in Star Atlas. Of course, any team members who want to get on and talk about kind of beginner topics, definitely open for that. Again, please check out my merch store at intergalacticgear. com. Star Atlas mugs with different logos are available, different mug types, and slowly rolling out some wall art based on the Star Atlas original NFT posters.
[00:15:49] And then if you’re interested in chatting with me and other people who aren’t members of Star Atlas Guilds in a more asynchronous threaded platform with email alerts when there’s new things you’re interested in, please check out intergalacticcoalition. com and fill out that interest survey. Other than that thanks for listening.
